Developing a design language and strategy for universal drinkware.

Tervis is the benchmark for insulated cups, known for their ringed design and ability to keep a drink’s preferred temperature. While Nova is familiar, we came to the realization that many out there hadn’t been properly introduced to the company or its products that could enhance their potable intake. We worked with Tervis to define their new market segment, Trinity, and create a design that would appeal to her and all their other customers.

The Challenge

We redesigned the 12oz tumbler so that you could bring it to work, the park, or a house party and not feel out of place. We also did it so that you didn’t have to curse out your cupboard because of non-stackable cups. But we didn’t stop there. In addition to product redesign, the Nova team created a design language that could be carried across all Tervis products. Our impact ranged from various artwork and pattern guidelines to the Tervis logo itself. It’s the kind of creative moxie we provide that makes unsuspecting bystanders into your newest fans.

Our Solution

We worked with the Tervis team to personify their biggest un-tapped market. We called her Trinity. Trinity hadn’t heard of Tervis before, but that didn’t stop her partner from giving her the gift of a 12oz tumbler. She loved how she could use the same cup for hot coffee in the office as with her iced G&T at home. The contemporary, clear look fit seamlessly into her existing glassware and it looked so good in her cabinet that she just had to get another to stack on top. It wasn’t long before Trinity was looking for the slightest opportunity to give a Tervis to someone in her wide social circle. Luckily, the dishwasher-safe cups come in a variety of styles to fit any aesthetic.
